Very nice old colored map of Italy by Gerard Mercator. With Sardinia and Corsica. Decorated with a beautiful title cartouche, a galleon and a sea monster.
The first edition of the map was published 1589 during Gerald Mercator's lifetime in the first partial edition of the Mercator Atlas Italiae, Sclavoniae et Graeciae tabulae geographicae in Duisburg. This example comes from the French edition of the Mercator-Hondius Atlas of 1619, with French text on verso.
